NZ Post Update

NZ Post Announces Postal Price Changes Effective 1 July 2026

NZ Post has announced annual pricing changes that will take effect from 1 July 2026, with increases averaging approximately 8% across postal services.

At Mailshop, we understand that postal price changes can impact budgets and campaign planning. Our team is here to help clients navigate these updates and identify opportunities to optimise mail volumes, formats and lodgement methods to achieve the best possible value.

What's Changing?

Standard Mail

The new pricing for Standard Mail (under 300 records) letters will be:

  • Medium letters: increasing to $3.60 (incl. GST)

  • Large letters: increasing to $4.90 (incl. GST)

  • Oversize letters: increasing to $6.20 (incl. GST)

This represents an increase of 70 cents per item across these categories.

  • ReplyPaid non-approved format envelopes: increasing to $3.60

  • ReplyPaid Medium approved format: increasing to $3.50

  • Selected PrePaid Envelopes will also increase, with pricing varying by product.

Bulk Mail and Zonal

Bulk Mail customers will continue to operate under NZ Post's Zonal Pricing structure (over 300 records).

Zonal Pricing applies to:

  • AdCard

  • FlexiMail

  • VolumeMail

  • Publication Mail

Under this system, New Zealand is divided into four delivery zones (A–D) based on postcode, with postage rates varying depending on destination. A fifth tier applies to items with invalid postcodes.

Ensuring your mailing data is accurate and up to date remains one of the best ways to minimise costs and avoid additional charges.

How Mailshop Can Help

While price increases are unavoidable, there are several ways businesses can reduce postage costs and improve mailing efficiency:

Best Practice for Bulk Mail Campaigns

1. Validate and cleanse your data regularly
Accurate addresses and postcodes help avoid invalid postcode charges and improve delivery success rates.

2. Use approved envelope formats where possible
Approved formats can attract lower postal rates than non-standard items.

3. Plan campaigns early
Allowing adequate lead time can help ensure the most cost-effective lodgement options are used.

4. Segment your audience
Sending targeted communications to the right recipients can reduce volume and improve campaign results.

5. Working with an experienced mail partner
A mailing specialist can help optimise formats, sortation and lodgement methods to achieve the best postal outcomes.
